What does standard insurance cover on a Pula hire car?
Car hire insurance in Pula follows the rental conditions for Croatia, and they describe standard cover by what it leaves out: damage to the wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen and the interior of the car falls outside it (clause 5). Those four exclusions apply to every car booked for car rental at Pula Airport, whichever supplier holds it.
Each car in the search lists the cover levels it offers beside its price, from the minimum included level upwards, and the price of each level for your dates. The card names each level and its price, and the country conditions describe standard cover. Every clause number on this page refers to the rental conditions for Croatia, reproduced word for word.
The conditions also keep rental cars to paved public roads (clause 8), and deliberate damage, from intentional vandalism or neglect, voids the insurance (clause 7).

What do I do if the car is damaged during the rental?
Tell the rental agent at once and obtain a police report, or follow what the agent agrees with you (clause 6). Missing either step cancels the insurance issued for the car and leaves the renter fully responsible for the damage.
In a breakdown, too, the first call is the number on your rental voucher. HAK, the Croatian automobile club, runs its own 24-hour breakdown service on +385 1 1987. A passenger car in Croatia must carry a warning triangle, a first-aid kit and a reflective vest, which the driver wears when working beside the car on the road.
Keep the phone number you gave at booking, with its country code, reachable from the day before pick-up until the car is returned. Service claims depend on the renter being reachable by phone or by Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram (clause 11).

Search carsHow does the deposit work on a Pula hire car?
The deposit is set per car and shown on the car before you pay. The Pula search carries cars with a deposit and cars without one, and its filters include No deposit and a low-deposit band. The methods for paying the rest of the rental, holding the deposit and the timeline for its refund are shown during booking and on the rental voucher (clause 15).
Some companies keep the deposit for 30 to 45 days after the car is returned. If the company receives a fine, or an invoice for an unpaid toll, from the days of your rental, the amount is charged to the deposit, together with the administrative cost in the case of a fine (clause 17).
Do I need a credit card to hire a car in Pula?
Some cars need a physical, embossed credit card in the main driver’s name, and the card has to be with you at pick-up. Some rental companies accept a debit card instead; the car and the voucher say so, and the debit card must also be physical, personalised, embossed and in the main driver’s name (clause 16).
The Pula search has a No credit card filter for the cars that take other payment. The card rule belongs to the car, so check it again if you switch to a similar model, and if a credit card is required, have it with you at pick-up (clause 16).

Which costs does the renter pay?
Fuel, parking, fines and toll roads are paid by the renter (clause 12). The car goes back with the fuel level it left with: a lower level is charged at the rental company’s rates, and extra fuel stays with the car (clause 3). A car returned so dirty that it hinders inspection is washed at the customer’s expense (clause 4).
A parking charge is issued to the car’s registered owner, which for a hire car is the rental company: Pula Parking issues a daily parking ticket to the owner in the Interior Ministry records, and Rovinj treats an unpaid car as having taken its daily ticket.
The minimum charge is 24 hours, so a car kept from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon is charged as two full days (clause 1). To extend the rental, tell the rental agent in advance (clause 2).
Can I cancel a Pula car hire booking free of charge?
Cancellation is set car by car, outside the country conditions: every car shows whether it has free cancellation before you pay, and the Pula search has a free cancellation filter.
What licence and age rules apply to the driver?
A valid national driving licence with its details in Latin script, valid until the last day of the rental, shown as the original card rather than a copy or an electronic licence. Where a licence is valid in its issuing country alone, an International Driving Permit is strongly recommended, to be shown on request (clause 14).
Croatian law accepts a licence from any European Economic Area country, and one from outside it, a UK licence included, on the basis of reciprocity; the rental’s own licence rule above applies on top.
The minimum age and driving experience are listed on each car and can differ even between similar models; the rental agent may refuse the car to a driver below them (clause 13).
Can the hire car leave Croatia or travel on a ferry?
Travel outside Croatia is added during booking as a cross-border option, for a fee, and the permission and its conditions are arranged with the help desk by email (clause 9); the price and conditions depend on the length of the trip, the car and the rental company. A ferry crossing between the islands and the mainland needs prior arrangement with customer support before the booking is completed (clause 10). A drive inside Croatia that ends in another city needs neither step: one-way hire from Pula returns the car in Zagreb, Zadar, Split or Dubrovnik, with the one-way charge inside the price shown.
