Which cities can I return a Pula hire car to?
One way car hire from Pula starts with collecting a car at Pula Airport and ends in Zagreb, Zadar, Split or Dubrovnik. Those four are the whole one-way list from Pula for hires in October and November 2026 and May 2027. Travellers heading for Šibenik, Trogir, Makarska, Omiš, Pag, Biograd na Moru or the Kaštela towns near Split Airport return the car in Zadar or Split, so the form offers exactly those four.
| Return city | Road km to the airport | Drive time | Return places in the search |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zagreb | 276 km | 3 h 40 | Zagreb airport (ZAG) |
| Zadar | 391 km | 4 h 50 | Zadar airport (ZAD), City delivery |
| Split | 489 km | 5 h 55 | Split airport (SPU), City delivery |
| Dubrovnik | 731 km | 9 h 05 | Dubrovnik airport (DBV), City delivery |
How do I book a one-way hire from Pula Airport?
Open the location field in the form above. The Pick up tab offers Pula Airport (PUY) and City delivery; once you choose one, the form moves to the Drop off tab, which offers Same place and the four return cities. Choose the city, set your dates and search: the booking page opens with Pula as the pick-up and your city as the drop-off, and the cars shown are the ones that can make that trip.
Same place returns the car where it was collected; choosing one of the four cities makes the booking a one-way hire.

Search carsIs the one-way charge included in the price shown?
Yes. The price a car shows on a one-way search already carries the charge for returning it elsewhere: each one-way total is the car’s same-place total plus its own return charge. The charge differs by car and by pair of cities, and some cars carry none.
Where is a one-way car returned?
One-way cars from Pula to Zagreb are listed for return at Zagreb Airport (ZAG). The return point for your car is the one on your rental voucher, and the phone number you booked with has to stay reachable until the car is returned (clause 11).
What waits at the other end of a one-way drive?
Zagreb Airport is in Velika Gorica, 16 km from the city centre, and one-way cars from Pula are listed for return there. Zadar Airport, ZAD, has one passenger terminal, and the historic core of the Zadar peninsula is a pedestrian zone. Split Airport is in Kaštel Štafilić, 20 km from Split and 6 km from Trogir, and Diocletian’s Palace lies inside a pedestrian zone. Dubrovnik Airport is near Čilipi, 22.5 km from Dubrovnik, and from 1 March to 30 November the special traffic zone round the Old Town admits authorised vehicles alone, so a rental car needs a reservation like any other.
In every city, park outside the old centre and walk in, and hand the car back at the point on your voucher.
Which roads do the one-way drives from Pula take?
Every one-way drive leaves Istria the same way, on the Istrian Y: the A9 north to Kanfanar, the A8 through the Učka tunnel to Matulji, then the A7 round Rijeka and the A6 inland to the Bosiljevo 2 junction on the A1. Tolls are the renter’s to pay (clause 12): in cash, by bank card or INA card, or with an encoded ENC tag at the Istrian Y’s plazas, and by a ticket paid at the exit on the HAC motorways.
From Bosiljevo 2 the A1 runs north on the drive from Pula to Zagreb and south towards Zadar and Split. The A1 ends near Ploče, and the drive from Pula to Dubrovnik finishes on state roads over the Pelješac Bridge, which keeps it in Croatia.
The drives from Pula to Zadar and Pula to Split cross the A1 stretch between Sveti Rok and Posedarje that the bora has closed to traffic. HAK’s road report on 072 777 777 gives the day’s closures, and the times in the table assume the road is open.

How long are the one-way drives, and what slows them?
The drive times in the table run from 3 h 40 to Zagreb Airport to 9 h 05 to Dubrovnik Airport. Times are without traffic or stops; summer queues and toll plazas add to them. The minimum charge is 24 hours, and the rental conditions’ own example charges a hire from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon as two full days, so set the return time with the drive in hand (clause 1).
From 15 November to 15 April winter equipment is compulsory on the designated winter sections of Croatian roads, about 839 km of motorway among them: four winter tyres, or summer tyres with at least 4 mm of tread plus chains for the driven wheels. Dipped headlights or daytime running lights are compulsory in daylight from 1 November to 31 March, and dipped headlights in every tunnel all year. The bora can restrict the A1 between the Sveti Rok and Posedarje junctions, as it did until 12:45 on 25 September 2026, so check HAK’s road report, on 072 777 777, before setting out for Zadar, Split or Dubrovnik.
Which conditions apply to a one-way hire?
The same as for any hire from Pula: a national licence in Latin script, a physical embossed credit card in the main driver’s name where the car asks for one, a 24-hour minimum charge and a same-level fuel return (clauses 14, 16, 1 and 3). A one-way trip stays inside Croatia, so the cross-border option is for trips abroad, and collection at Pula Airport works as for a same-place hire.
Each car shows its deposit before you pay, on a one-way hire as on any other: the booking and the voucher give its refund timeline (clause 15), some companies hold it for 30 to 45 days after the return, and a fine or an unpaid toll billed to the company after your hire is charged to it, with administrative costs in the case of a fine (clause 17). Fuel, parking, fines and tolls on the drive are the renter’s to pay (clause 12).
